What a busy month I have had! I played two weekend games (not complete weekends of course but Saturdays, to be more precise), ran a whole day RPG session, visited SELWG 2019 (stay tuned for the report!) and played two evening games. With all this, it’s not a big surprise that I have not made too much progress with miniature painting.
But hey, life doesn’t stop and wait for you to catch up. Lots have been going on on the market that forced me to spend a bit of my hobby budget:
Games Workshop have released Beastgrave, the 3rd season of the Warhammer Underworld series. I did enjoy the previous issues (Shadespire and Nightvault) and though I’m far from finishing their warbands, I bought the new game without any hesitation.
Why did I buy it, if I haven’t finished painting the previously purchased warbands? For the following three reasons: first of all, these boxed games usually aren’t available for a too long time and once they are gone, it’s almost impossible to get hold of either a new or a used but well-preserved and complete set. The second reason is coming from the psychology of collecting: once you start a collection, leaving it incomplete is just not an option. I’m pretty sure this sounds familiar to most wargame or RPG players. 😊 The final reason is that the warbands of this set will come very handy later on in my RPG campaign.
Beastgrave is a fast-paced arena game on hexagonal tiles, with miniatures and cards. If there are cards, you are going to need the cards sleeves too. None could possibly let those nicely printed cards get worn, right?
The last bit of my Beastgrave purchases – at least for this month – is the Primal lair scenery tiles. These pieces represent the blocked and the lethal hexes in the game. They look amazing! These pieces work well as scenery pieces in any fantasy battlefields or RPG games – the dragon skeleton is an absolute must-have, I can hardly wait to start painting it.
The sale in Dark Sphere also made me want to buy more stuff. There were loads of games, minis, scenery pieces, but I made my best effort to resist them and keep my spend under control. The fact that I bought only a Feldherr case, two sets of scenic bases and a set of resin fur coats, makes me believe that I have superhuman level self-control. 😊
The figure case comes with a customisable pick and pluck tray. I adjusted it to the carts that I finished recently , so this will be a more secure solution to store and to transport them.
Last, but not at least, I bought something, that is for a secret project. It’s a set of minis that I will paint for my brother. We’ll see each other at Christmas, so it must be ready by then.
I’ll keep you posted once it’s ready, keep your fingers crossed that I can finish it on time!
