This one was supposed to be my report about Salute 2020 . Under normal circumstances, you could be reading about London’s biggest wargaming show, the participation games, the traders, the new games presented and all the amazing stuff I bought. But we have this COVID-19 situation and Salute is postponed to 2021.
This must have been a very difficult decision for the organizers, as I’m sure they have invested a lot into the show already and they came up with an great theme (Battle of Britain 1940). This must also be painful for the traders who are relying on the sales revenue and the game developers who wanted to present their new products. It’s a loss for us, gamers too.
We’ve been living in a golden era of gaming, with no period, war or conflict left uncovered by an abundance of minis in different scales, games, rule sets and scenery pieces. This may or may not be sustainable on the long run, but with the growing financial difficulties in the wake of the virus outbreak, I’m not sure that all the manufacturers and companies will survive.
There’s something you can do about it: check the list of the companies who would have been present at the show. Take a virtual trip to their websites and spend the money that you would have spent at Salute 2020. You’ll be surprised how many of them have special offers for the lockdown! With that in mind, you might even want to consider eating into your holiday budget as well – for the time being, there is a slim chance that we can have a proper summer holiday anyway…
I have walked the talk myself, which you’ll see in my Spring haul report soon! 😊
