The new batch - assault squads and specialists

The More the Merrier

After finishing the first three squads of the 15mm OutRim Coalition Infantry , there was no turning back. I had to go on.

I have painted standard troopers, medics, squad leaders and SAW gunners so far, but I decided to add more support weapons (plasma guns and two different missile launchers), snipers and two assaults squads. I used the SG15-RC09 and SG15-RC04 sets from Ground Zero Games’ OutRim Coalition range.

For a short while, I was considering a slightly different colour scheme for the specialists and a camo pattern for the snipers but in the end, I realised that it would be better to keep the army consistent, so I painted the minis the same minimalist way as the troopers.

I picked the minis with the most dynamic poses for the assault squads, and converted two SAW gunners into flamers. I added a smaller tank to their backpacks and I filed away the upper parts of their weapons, which made them look a bit similar to the WWII flamethrowers. I tried to add bayonets to the troopers’ rifles, but after a couple of failed attempts I gave up. The flamethrowers should give them a nice bonus for assaults anyway 😊.

Now I have five complete squads – each with a squad leader, a medic, a SAW gunner, a support weapon specialist and six troopers. That makes it a platoon!

I have painted more than 50 minis so far and I believe that I’m about halfway through: I still have the power armour units, the heavy gunners and the vehicles left to finish. I’m happy with this colour scheme for the infantry, but the vehicles need a different approach: I’m thinking about a futuristic white-grey camo, but I haven’t found any that looks good and is not a total overkill. Definitely, some further research is needed on this.

What comes next? Heavy weapon teams or power armour? You’ll see soon!
